I had to travel to San Jose, CA for a training session for work. This would be my second time to California and I was looking forward to the trip for some rest and relaxation. Well the rest did come except the relaxation did not. Here is a quick run-down of what happened to and from San Jose: 1) My first flight was three hours late. 2) My luggage was late by five hours and damaged. 3) United will not reimburse me for the luggage (cheap bastards). 4) The class had a 2 hour delay due to damaged projector. (Projector fell from the ceiling twice.)
The only two things that went right was me booking the flight, through BEyONd THE MAP, and getting sushi at a local restaurant across from my hotel. The sushi bar was awesome. They had some great food that really hit the spot. They also had warm sake which can be sweet but also extremely soothing on a stressful day. The sushi was also great and great in protein. Every bit of it just melted in your mouth and especially the salmon. The protein count in sushi is much higher than you realize. Just think about it. When you eat salmon it is typically cooked which is responsible for burning away some of the protein content within the food. So by eating it fresh and raw, the protein content, omega 3 fatty acids, and everything else about salmon is much higher.

Still Counting and Tracking
I am still watching the calories and the sweets that I eat. I have not yet lost a pound, typical. I hope that this will show that I need to workout more than and do more exercises. I am currently lifting every M, W, and F and having very little time between reps so my workout is more of a cardio than a lifting session. I also try to get my cardio in on thursday as well as on the weekend.

Putting your faults in front
I have been taking a good look at myself and what I have done in the past to lose weight. Yes, I am still counting calories but not calculating out every little bite. What I have been doing is, in addition to counting calories, is having a check list of my faults. I like to eat at night, eat more than 2500 calories and eat a lot of sweets. All of these things are not good for someone who is trying to cut down and trim up. So what I did is created a checklist to show me what I have done that day for eating.
Here is a picture of it.

With this chart I am writing down when I have eaten or done the bad habits. This will show me while I cannot lose more weight.

Seether - Fake It
This song has a pretty good beat to it. I makes me want to work my back for some reason.
Night Time Hunger
I have been trying to fight my night time hunger. IT IS HARD! The only way I have succeeded in keeping from eating at 7:00pm is to brush my teeth after supper and try to go to bed by 10:00pm. This has kept me out of the refrigerator and thinking about the fact that I am hungry. I was weighted after doing this and in my first week I went down 5lbs. That is not to say that I lost it but fluctuated 5lbs.

Counting Calories
I am sure that I have talked about counting calories before but I just want to chime in again on this matter. I have just started to count my calories. The most success stories that I hear are how people counted their calories and they lost a lot of weight. I am one of those people who think that the caloric countdown is a mind over matter. If you think that you will lose weight then you probably will.
I just so happened to notice a weight change when I least expected it, and that was when I was doing one hour of walking on Tuesdays and Thursdays, weight lifting at nights on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and I was playing racquetball during lunch on the days I lifted. I happened to notice by chance but when I stopped lifting for the three months because of my feet, I gained it all back and have been at the same weight for a long time.
Anyway, I have started on counting my calories and we will see what this brings us.

Plantar Fasciitis
For the last 6+ months, I have been having a huge amount of pain within my left foot. It started with both feet hurting and then I went to China to give training. I received a foot message over there and both feet felt great after that. I then played racquetball after that and my left foot started to hurt again to a point that it was hard for me to walk on my left foot. I had to stop lifting and cardio and concentrated on healing that one foot.
I have been meaning to go to the doctor and find out what is going on on that side. I went into the clinic and we took some x-rays and found out that nothing was wrong. All of the joints look great and the bones look very healthy. (That is what exercise and lifting does for you. Healthy, Healthy, Healthy) We did some more exploring of the feet and it appears that I have Plantar Fasciitis.
In short, Plantar Fasciitis is the tearing of the tendons due to overweight, intense use, flat feet, poor shoes, anything dealing with high strain with the feet. It can be avoided by stretching. Stretching is so important and I was not doing as much stretching as I should have and now I plan for stretching before any activity.

Depressed on the Rainy Days?
My family just endured another rainy dreary day. I am a father of two beautiful girls. They were both a hand full when we were in the house, but when we were outside. They were a lot better. At least the oldest was. It sure is true about getting older; you learn to deal with yourself in boring situations like staying inside when it is raining.
My daughters were very illed tempered due to the cabin fever that we had to endure since nothing else was going on and we didn't want to go to the closest major mall.....1 hr away. Try to keep your wits about you and try not to take it out on the kids, because they are going through it too.

CureZone - Educate Instead of Medicate
I stumbled across this site. It happens to have a lot of blogs and other articles dealing with nature cures and also natural ways to lose weight and feel great. There was one article that talked about using coconut oil to help you lose weight. I am still investigating the natural way to cure your thyroid gland and coconut oil seems to be the way to do it.

Eating out doesn't mean to blimp out.
I went out to eat the other day at an all-you-can-eat buffet. They had steak there which is one of my favorite meats. So I went up there twice for the steak and everything else. The first time I went up I had a medium size piece. The second time up up, the lady remembered me so she gave me a bigger piece. Needless to say I had my fill of steak that night. After I got done eating, I realized that this is not how I eat at home. So why do I eat like this here? We do not have steak a lot at home so I guess when the chance arises I guess I have to get filled up.
This has made me think about eating out in a different frame of mind. Eating up should the time to have the foods that you typically do not have at home but also maintaining your good habits of eating. For instance, tonight we are going to be going out to eat at a seafood restaurant and I am going to get the typical shrimp but instead of the fries, I am going to get the baked potato with fat free sour cream. Make sure you ask your restaurant if they have this as an option because most do.

Americans are spoiled
I recently had the oportunity to travel to China for business. While I was over there, I had some questions to ask the locals about eating and exercise. First off, Americans are the largest consumers of soda in the world. Every meal that I ordered they offered some kind of soda instead of a bowl of soap which is what everyone else gets. I turned down the soda and got the soap because I wanted to experience their culture and eating habits.
All of the fruits, vegetables, and meat over there is mostly organic (disregard anything that is imported, not organic). Farms are all over the place. They do not waste any space whatsoever. There were farms right next to the landing field for my flight coming it. I also noticed that if their was an opening on the side of the road....there was a farm. (When I say farm I mean a greenhouse. I have a garden in my back yard and when I should it to the people that I was training, they thought I had a farm. So I am using that in comparison.)
When I was over their I ate nothing but the local food. I noticed that the food that I was eating was not that much and I was getting full off of it. It was so weird that I would eat a bowl of food that would normally make me want to get seconds, would actually fill me up. The book that I have been reading, tells me that this would happen and it is actually true. I wish organic food was not so expensive. I guess you would have to have a garden that would be all-years-round.
Listen to your body
When eating, have you ever noticed that you can eat a lot of food if you keep at it in one sitting and not take a break. Do you think that your body was made to do so or do you think that in nature, your body is use to eating little and then taking breaks to find the next meal and/or the next spot to sit and get out o the way from something that could eat you.? Your body is not made to eat a lot at one time. It is made to eat a bit here and a bit there. No I am not a doctor and no I am not a nutritionist. From some of the research that I have done I have concluded that that the human body is not made to sit down and get full. It was made to eat a little here and there because in nature that is what it had to do to survive. Just do a comparison to squirrels, deers, tigers, and any other animal out their and none, except for house hold animals, eat three meals a day. We force our eating habits onto dogs and cats so they are excluded from the study.
You have probably heard about the six meal diet which says to eat three meals that are small but full of protein, carbs, and fruits and veggies; and three meals that are based on snacks….healthy snacks. This diet is also known as just grazing which is to mimic the eating behavior grazing animals like cows, goats, etc. This diet is great, but they have only limited the feeding down to six meals which in my opinion should be more because the body then has to put itself back into storage mode. If you notice animals in the wild, they are eating a little bit and then eating something again shortly after unless they are going through a famine which their bodies then place itself into storage mode. My opinion and this is only my opinion, we should eat about a cup of food slowly every hour thereabouts. This would ensure that we get the food that our bodies only need and not want. This would mean that the food would have to be prepared prior too or you would have to buy something really small.
With the small amount of food consumed and the frequency that the food is eaten, the person will not be hungry and not full. This will eliminate the storage factor to kick in and have the body go into storage mode.
